I have never been able to get anyone to go an see The Unthanks with me – my family and friends have a level of antipathy to “folk” music which borders on prejudice. (I do not understand this given they all like any number of Country acts). Mrs SP was going to come to the Arc in Stockton with me once but then saw them on telly, clog dancing, and broke her promise.

I heard this, as a nominee for best original song at the BBC 2 Folk Awards ,this week (didn’t win) and think it is utterly beautiful (though the video is over sentimental for may taste). If anyone can tell me what it reminds me of I would be grateful.

  • Just googled for a bit more of their work, only to see a this message at the foot of a google page.

“In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 2 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint that caused the removal(s) at ChillingEffects.org.”

Out of nothing but idle curiosity and displacement activity (I’ve got a particularly difficult bill to finish preparing) I click on the link only for the complaint to list all the places where I could download (illegally I add) a copy of the album. Not sure what the complaint to google achieved, apart from showing where to download it. Most of the illegal downloaders are savvy enough to find out where these downloads can be obtained, without the need to be pointed in the right direction. Anyway back to work.

  • Piano sounds like coldplay and the harmony like something off dark side of the moon to me

  • Dark side of the Moon – that is it – the bit when there are blokes talking

  • Do I get a bonus (track) for that !?

  • I am a muppet, but which one would I be? Surely everyone likes Animal best? I was always very fond of Beaker and the Swedish Chef…

  • Wasn’t aimed at you

  • No, I know that! But I still felt inclined to answer the question posed! And the answer was clear-cut..
