Chanced upon this gem at the LSC Website whilst looking for something else;

As a subscription to the LSC manual is mandatory we will be monitoring the take up of subscriptions to ensure that all providers have access to current reference materials.
Best do that subscription – not like in the old days when I always brought my copy of the (Purple) LA Handbook with me to an audit – just in case.
