Poison & Wine

I have no idea how the Civil Wars passed under my radar until a couple of weeks ago – probably because I stopped watching “Later” as often. Now they are everywhere, morning TV, the album charts, adverts on Sky, winning at the Grammys, radio interviews and at the Sage in October (could not have got tickets for the Manchester gig tonight , or Leeds on Sunday, even if I could have gone – The Southmartins will be a reasonable compensation).

And what a year so far, especially First Aid Kit, with more to come on the “Americana” front with a new Justin Townes Earl record and a Decemberists live album, just around the corner. Even Nanci Griffith – who we see next week in York – is back to half decent form with her latest, “Intersection”.

“Barton Hollow” is however stunning, absolutely stunning. I loved the Alison Krauss and Robert Plant thing however this is the “authentic” version of what that is all about. You can get a free download of the title track via the link above.

I also got a free download of them “Live at Eddies Attic”, however this seems to have disappeared from the official sites now. You need the studio album anyhow.
