London

This week is a bit of an Olympic tribute – to all those who made it such a joy.

I heard this as the backing to one of the BBCs many close of session montages and immediately thought it was Mary Chapin Carpenter. I was consequently massively intrigued when I discovered it was Thea Gilmore and (all time favourite female artist) Sandy Denny. As someone with just about Sandy”s entire recorded output I was also very uneasy, in the way obsessives are, that I had never even heard this song. An explanation of how it came about, Thea’s tune with Sandy’s lyrics, can be seen here.

I suspect it was written at the same time as Rendezvous when she was in the States and about to resurrect her career – but that’s just my guess. I hope that the album “Don’t Stop Singing” is waiting for me on the doormat at home.
