Here We Go Again

Yesterday we commented upon the Court Interpreters fiasco and the Public Accounts Committee’s finding that the MoJ was not an “intelligent costumer in procuring services”. (Our recent and immediate casework bears this out beyond reasonable doubt).

You will all be more familiar with the 2 expensive, previous attempts to arrive at a Price Competitive or Best Value tendering scheme for Criminal Legal Aid services.

Today we get this, from the Lord Chancellor, announcing an 8-week consultation on “price competition” in criminal legal aid.

I am genuinely fascinated to see what they will propose this time – frankly a raffle* would be a more rational approach than those previously suggested.

*I claim “CrimLA Raffle” as a Trade Mark.
