There are, predictably, loads of comments on this article in the Gazette about losses at Co-op Legal Service.
This prompted me to have a look at their Legal Aid contract situation which is nothing as grand as one might think. In the North East they have “permanent presence” on the Tyne, Tees and Wear, likewise with 3 Yorkshire outlets, York, Bradford and Sheffield. (I know the building which houses their Middlesbrough operation and it is not what you would immediately imagine either). There are other outfits with more offices and wider coverage across the region, but without the advertising budget.
Interestingly, to me at least, you cannot find any office details from their website, so it is hardly a walk-in-off-the-street style service.
It seems that the Co-op are not alone.
