Audit Time – Avoid the Rush

We have had a recent spate of successful SQM and Lexcel audits as forward-looking firms prepare for next year. Andy is out “audit sitting” as we speak.

Having either standard externally accredited, is now a key contractual requirement of both the Civil and Criminal schemes. For some criminal practitioners this is a new experience and one which needs completion, on current timescales, by next July at the latest . With the position on Duty Contracts still up in the air there is no firm deadline however this was originally set as February 2015. Even if this, almost inevitably slips back, time is of the essence.

Many civil firms have been through this experience in 2012, which means that reaccreditation will be required in the New Year.

  • The SQM audit today is going well. The only minor issues which have been raised have emerged due to lack of focus and quick/rushed audited preparation by the firm.
As indicated above don’t leave accreditation to which ever scheme (Lexcel or SQM) until the last minute.
