What He Wrote

I bought 6 of the NME top 75 albums of the year – which is probably as it should be. By the same token I think I understand why “The Sea” by Corrine Bailey Rae doesn’t make the list at all – despite probably being the best album of the year.
The six artists are, in reverse order, Gill Scott Heron, Belle and Sebastian, Mr Weller, The Manics, Laura Marling and, at no 2, Arcade Fire (with what I thought was a deeply disappointing effort).
If the aforementioned CBR did not produce the best CD of the year then Laura Marling certainly did – a fantastic redefinition of folk music from this generations Sandy Denny. (She must, however, switch to Elixir guitar strings).
