Back to Reality

If there is such a thing as a traditional JRS New Year message it stresses the “Happy” rather than “Prosperous” element of the standard greeting.

Obviously, for Legal Aid lawyers, the hope for the latter has to be taken in context. In the 17 years of JRS we have never really been in a position realistically to hope for improved prospects in the 12-months ahead. This year is, however, the most depressing to date with LASPO scope reductions, a government keen of further cuts and the prospect of another “consultation” on competitive tendering for the CDS looming.

Forgive us then for starting 2013 on a somewhat downbeat note – we are sure that you understand why.
