Feed the Cats

We all reject the myth of the “fat cat legal aid lawyer”. During last weeks anti PCT social media campaign our most retweeted contribution:

Over 20 years I have met 1,000s of Legal Aid lawyers (its my job) not ONE of them was a Fat Cat just dedicated to #saveukjustice

I intended to do a bit more on this and was reminded to do so by this new blog

Becoming a Duty Solicitor takes years – a degree, the LPC, 2-years in a training contract and then completing CLAS accreditation.

At that point you can anticipate a salary between £20-£40k dependant upon experience and location (this is taken from today’s job pages in TLS Gazette)

It is a Public Sector site so most of them were teaching posts though there are a couple of accountants posts and housing manager. Now I enjoy teasing teachers about their holidays as much as the next self employed, wealth creator who’s taxes pay for them, however I would not seriously suggest that they have an easy job.

Do we hear tales of the national disgrace that is – “fat cat teachers”?

Of course we don’t. Frankly we probably regard teachers as the vocationally motivated, undervalued, underpaid, yet vital public servants they are.
