There is strong sense of Deja Vu hanging over JRS HQ this morning as we await the publication of the next government consultation document regarding Legal Aid reforms.
Although the justice secretary has made a ‘U-turn’ with regards to PCT, the suggestion now is that the £220 million savings will come, in part, by a 17.5% cut in fees across the board which will be introduced in 2 stages. It may, on the face of it, seem like a victory however the proposed fee cuts will almost certainly still be fatal for many firms. You can find how they propose to make changes in other areas here.
It seems the consultation document is expected tomorrow, we therefore wait with baited breath to discover the full extent of these alternative proposals.
Seconds out, round 2!
