Yesterday really was one of those days. The phone went constantly whilst e-mails arrived steadily in the background. We dealt with questions across all current legal aid contracts and pretty much every franchise category, as I still call them. Beyond the general billing queries this included specific and serious cases involving:
- Termination notices
- Contract suspensions
- Contract Notices
- Contract Compliance Audits, plural, one with a 6-figure recoupment
- Points of Principle
- Peer Review, potential appeals and fresh requests
- Contract novation, with predicted LAA inconsistency
It is to be hoped that this is a random, one-off experience rather than the shape of things to come. There does however appear to be an upsurge in audit activity.
